CHOIS received this letter from HSLDA President, Mike Smith.

    Dear Homeschool Families:

Many of you have already heard that Sono Harris, wife of Gregg Harris, has been diagnosed with stage four cancer which has thrust the Harris family into a crisis. I recently spoke with Gregg to find out the latest report, and he shared with me that God has been very gracious to Sono and the rest of the family. Sono is weakening daily but has experienced very little pain. Sono speaks of seeing Jesus soon. Although they have not been given any indication as to when she might receive her total healing, Gregg has indicated that it could be any time now.

Over the many years that Gregg, Sono and the Harris family have been involved in serving the homeschool community through their teaching, writing and many other ways, we all have been inspired and blessed by them. God has truly gifted the members of this family. Josh Harris gave young adults a biblical approach to dating by writing the book I Kissed Dating Goodbye and now serves as senior pastor of Covenant Life Church in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

The twins Alex and Brett, who are currently students at Patrick Henry College, challenged young adults to do hard things through their book and their Rebelution conferences. The Harrises have seven children, four of which are still at home.

As a result of Sono’s illness, Gregg has canceled all of his speaking engagements and put on hold all of his daily business responsibilities to care for Sono. As a result, the household income has suffered significantly and the medical bills continue to mount. You may have already seen emails indicating how contributions can be made on behalf of the family. They need significant financial help right now.

I’m addressing this letter to you prayerfully hoping that you and/or your organization will be able to show your appreciation for the blessing that Harris family has been to you and the homeschool community.

Cards and notes may be sent to:

     In His Service,

     Michael Smith, President
